Raised PSA/Prostate Cancer

The finding of a raised PSA or suspicion of prostate cancer can be very worrying. Mr Henderson will go through the results of each test in detail with you and in combination with the results of a prostate examination, talk through the next steps.

Mr Henderson has access to the latest diagnostic tests including MRI scanning and transperineal prostate biopsy. Non-cancerous conditions may cause an increased PSA. If prostate cancer is diagnosed there are many possible treatment options including

  • Active surveillance- watching low risk disease closely to ensure that it does not progress.

  • Robotic radical prostatectomy- complete removal of the prostate via small incisions

  • Radiotherapy- irradiation of the prostate to kill the cancer cells

  • Hormone treatment- manipulation of hormones to prevent prostate cancer growing

Mr Henderson will run through these options in detail and arrange appropriate treatment and follow up.
