Web icons10.png

Passing blood is always alarming but in the majority of patients, the cause is not sinister (ie. cancer). Mr Henderson will arrange prompt investigation which usually involves an examination, urine tests, a camera test to look inside your bladder and also a scan of the kidneys. Possible causes of blood in the urine include;

  • Urinary tract infection

  • Kidney, ureteric, bladder or urethral stone

  • Enlarged prostate

  • Kidney, ureteric, bladder or urethral cancer

Early treatment of any abnormality detected should lead to an excellent outcome and prognosis. All investigations may be normal in which case prompt reassurance can be offered.
